Design four is an evolution of design three. The program
hasn’t changed with this. The shape of the building though has become far more
chaotic in terms of the angled plans which make the walls. This is in reference
to how chaotic his life is in terms of piles upon piles of paper of his records.
The towers shape has also changed it is now more cone shaped with a reflective
space at the bottom and a catwalk at the top allowing for a vantage point. This
is the only design which has an outdoor space that allows him to step out his
comfort zone not being sealed from the outside world. He now slightly interacts
with it and is viewed by the public when doing so.

Design Three
Design threes concept develops a series of openings to
create moments in which to record data. The entrance is into the kitchen,
dining and study space with a mezzanine living area above with a large opening
looking down to the street. Down stair is a bedroom with no window so he can
sleep without the distraction of the outside world, up some stairs to the
bathroom; which has a large window in front of the bath so he can sit in the
bath and document. On the other side of the house is the tower which has solid
shear walls with a glass roof. The bottom has a mirrored floor that reflects
the sky. This design has many moments of stimulation for him with multiple
different vantage points. The folded structure acts like a security blanket for
him as he is ultimately scared of being in the outside world. Compared to
design one and two, he is far more exposed to the public.
Design Two
Design two is the evolution of design one. This incorporates
a very similar program; though the lounge and dining space have been located to
the glass atrium like space which is situated between the bathroom and kitchen
space. The circulation space in the plan has been enhanced, allowing the record
keeper to be able to walk around the perimeter of the building to access his
multiple vantages points for watching and recording. The volume of the tower
has also been enhanced with 4 mezzanine levels. This space gives him greater
range of spaces to record through more open space though still providing the
dark protected closed spaces where is doesn't feel compelled to record.
Design One

Design one concept responds to the record keepers need to
compulsively record; as well as his need to stop himself from the constantly
doing this. This influences why the house is underground with only 2 areas with
views above. In relation to the program you enter into the study which has a
slot window looking towards the tower, down a set of stairs is a dark narrow
bathroom followed by a kitchen with a sitting space. At the end is the tower
space lined with book cases; at the bottom a sleeping and sitting space; at the
top is an empty area with reflective glass windows were he can see his
reflection in the work he constantly documents from this vantage point.

The Record Keeper
A figure sits behind a desk
softly lit by a small desk lamp, writing drawing and documenting; he is the
record keeper. He steps out of the shadows; his silver grey hair glistens in
the light; his face is disguised by huge black framed glasses. He takes pride in his appearance
with shiny black shoes, a three piece suit and a perfectly pressed shirt.
Behind
the polished confident exterior is a very uncertain man, a hermit who can’t
deal with the outside world and as locked himself within his fortress of records.
He is fascinated by the mundane events of the outside world, people’s behaviour
and interaction, and of the evolution of the city which he observes from inside
this fortress. He works alone, obsessing to ensure everything will be
documented and preserved for those who understand the great importance of this
knowledge base; with the hope that one day when he is gone, someone else
rejected from the outside world will come and continue his valuable work.
It is a
rare occasion that someone will venture in to search or request a file; no one
see the value of his work, which is why he works alone. Recording such a wide
and varying range of data he roams around the building to the optimum advantage
points for documentation. So he sits alone in a building working endlessly on
his files; everything in his life revolves around his obsession of
documentation.
